Apostille and certification of translations

For information on the process to request the Apostille on Canadian public documents intended for use in Italy, please consult the website of the competent Canadian authorities (click here).

The Consulate General does not provide translation services but may certify English to Italian translations prepared by a certified translator listed here. The apostille certificate does not need to be translated.

The certified translation must have the following features:

  • To be firmly attached (for example being stapled) to a complete copy of the original certificate;
  • To display on each page the initials of the Certified Translator;
  • To display on the last page the original signature of the Certified Translator and the stamp of the Society/Association of Certified Translators;
  • To display on the last page the expiry date of the registration with the Society/Association of Translators.

To request the certification of a translation (assembled as per the instructions above) submit by mail the following to the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver:

  1. Original document in English (that will be returned);
  2. Certified Italian translation (prepared by a  certified translator);
  3. Completed request form SCIV01 (click here);
  4. Photocopy of current government issued photo ID of the applicant;
  5. Bank draft/money order payment (issued by a Canadian banking institution/postal office) for the fee relative to Art. 69 of the Table of Consular fees (click here);
  6. A prepaid envelope for the return shipping of the documents.

As an alternative it is possible to have the document translated by a traduttore giurato in Italy – the lists of the traduttori giurati are available at Italian Law Courts – and have the translation certified at an Italian Law Court or Italian Town Hall.
