European Union Film Festival in Vancouver

The European Union Film Festival returns to Vancouver from November 16 to November 30. Italy presents “The Spring of my Life”: Zavvo Nicolosi’s feature debut is a lively, engaging, often hilarious road movie starring popular Sicilian singers Colapesce and Dimartino (whose music videos Nicolosi directs). The film is the fictional story of two friends who share a certain musical past as they embark on an unusual journey to Sicily. As they travel across the legendary island and its villages, towns, and cities, not to mention the volcanic Mount Etna, they have odd, absurdist encounters with decidedly eccentric characters. Influenced by the road movies of Wim Wenders and Aki Kaurismäki, with nods to Wes Anderson’s whimsical humour, The Spring of My Life is a colourful cinematic and musical confection—a trip to Sicily you won’t soon forget.

Also, don’t miss this opportunity to check out the other 28 new productions, representing the other EU member countries (+ Ukraine) at this year’s edition of the Festival, running from November 16 to 30. Among them, two other films co-produced by Italy: Luxembourg’s entry Io sto bene by Donato Rotunno and Il boemo by Petr Václav, representing the Czech republic.

The Cinematheque’s annual celebration of new cinema from the European Union is presented with the Vancouver consulates and the Ottawa embassies of the member states of the European Union and the Delegation of the European Union to Canada.
