Conversion Law No. 74/2025 of Decree Law No. 36/2025 amended Article 17, Paragraph 1, of Law No. 91/1992, introducing the possibility, in certain cases and for a limited period of time, for former Italian citizens also residing abroad to reacquire Italian citizenship. The reacquisition takes place through the submission of a declaration, which must be made in person before the relevant consular officials.
The declaration of reacquisition, complete with the required documentation, can be submitted from July 1, 2025 to Dec. 31, 2027.
