On the occasion of the second edition of “Italian Sports Day in the World” the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver is pleased to organize a special initiative to celebrate the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Youth, CONI – Italian National Olympic Committee, and Italy’s diplomatic network, this initiative emphasizes the international significance of sport and the values it represents.

A video highlighting the beautiful lands that will host the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Games will be showcased during the intermission of two Vancouver Canucks NHL pre-season games, taking place on Friday, September 26th and October 3rd. This celebration not only emphasizes the global reach of the Italian sports system, but also fosters sports diplomacy, promoting values of mutual respect, cooperation, and international friendship through sport. In British Columbia, home to a vibrant Italian-Canadian community, we aim to strengthen sporting and cultural connections between Italy and Canada, while displaying Italian excellence in design, technological innovation, and high-quality craftsmanship, rooted in our regions’ unique identities.

With the anticipated participation of NHL players in the Olympic tournament, Milano-Cortina 2026 promises to be one of the most prestigious editions of the Games, particularly in ice hockey, a sport that unites Italian and Canadian fans alike. A short promotional video, selected to be shown during two NHL games, will preview the upcoming Winter Games taking place from February 6th to the 22nd, 2026, offering a unique platform to highlight the natural beauty of our regions. This multi-location format, featuring iconic destinations such as Cortina d’Ampezzo and Bormio, embodies Italy’s commitment to economic and environmental sustainability, through the use of existing and temporary infrastructure. This approach not only enhances Italy’s landscape and functionality, but also underscores our commitment to responsible and innovative development.
