{"id":624,"date":"2023-05-25T01:03:07","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T08:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/?page_id=624"},"modified":"2026-02-19T11:16:49","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T19:16:49","slug":"declarations-of-value-of-diplomas-and-legalizations-of-school-documents","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/students\/declarations-of-value-of-diplomas-and-legalizations-of-school-documents\/","title":{"rendered":"Declarations of Value (DV) and Consular Declaration (CD) for School Documents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>GENERAL INFORMATION<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Consulate General in Vancouver is the authority in charge of issuing Declarations of Value and Consular Declaration for educational qualifications obtained at Canadian schools or universities located in its jurisdiction, which includes the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory.<\/li>\n<li>The Italian consular network in Canada can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/la-rete-consolare\/\">https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/la-rete-consolare\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Our Consulate General cannot issue a statement of equivalence for Canadian educational qualifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DECLARATION OF VALUE (DV) OR CONSULAR DECLARATION (CD)?<\/strong><\/p>\n<table class=\"table\" style=\"height: 198px;\" border=\"0\" width=\"1055\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>The Declaration of Value (DV) can be issued only for documents that have a &#8220;legal value&#8221; in Canada (e.g. high school\u00a0 Diploma or Bachelor&#8217;s degree etc.). The DV is a document that provides information about the qualification obtained in Canada, such as the legal duration of the course of study, admission requirements, etc.<\/p>\n<p>For the procedure and the list of documents see point A below.<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>A Consular Declaration (CD) may be requested for school report cards and official\/academic transcripts in order to guarantee their authenticity. The CD does not define the &#8220;legal value&#8221; of such documents, since they do not hold any.<\/p>\n<p>For the procedure and the list of necessary documents see point B below.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A. HOW TO APPLY FOR A DECLARATION <\/strong><strong>OF VALUE (DV) OF A DIPLOMA\/DEGREE (e.g., Grade 12 Diploma, Bachelor, Master, PhD, etc.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Items that need to be sent <strong>by mail<\/strong> to the Education Office of our Consulate General (please note that we don&#8217;t accept applications sent via email):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Application form EDUC01<\/strong> (available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/gli-uffici\/modulistica\/\">forms page)<\/a> signed in original by the applicant (if 18 or older) or by a parent\/legal guardian (if applicant is a minor).<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of the current <strong>passport<\/strong> (or other valid government-issued ID indicating the nationality) of the student and of the parent\/legal guardian if the student is a minor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Original Diploma\/Degree<\/strong> and <strong>Transcripts*<\/strong> bearing the <strong>Apostille<\/strong> issued by the competent federal or provincial government:\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>For documents issued in British Columbia <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/governments\/government-id\/guide-to-the-authentication-of-documents\/about\/apostille\">click here<\/a>;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>For documents issued in Alberta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/document-authentication-other-jurisdictions-countries\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>For documents issued in Saskatchewan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saskatchewan.ca\/government\/notarized-documents-legislation-maps\/authenticating-notarized-documents\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>For documents issued in Yukon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/gac-amc\/about-a_propos\/services\/authentication-authentification\/step-etape-1.aspx?lang=eng\"><strong>click here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Apostille must be attached to an original document or to the certified copy.<\/p>\n<p>For high school diplomas it is necessary to submit an <strong>attendance letter <\/strong>issued by the school confirming the student&#8217;s exact dates of enrollment. The letter can be submitted via mail or e-mail.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>* For College\/University Degrees check with the Italian university\/employer to find out if they require that the transcripts are included in the DV.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0If the name that appears on the applicant\u2019s passport (or other valid government-issued ID) doesn\u2019t match exactly the name that appears on the official document(s), the applicant must submit an official letter from the university or school confirming:\n<ul>\n<li>Full name (as it appears on the passport or other valid government-issued ID), student number, date and place of birth of the applicant;<\/li>\n<li>Details of the document(s) issued to the applicant (i. e., type of document, identification number, date of issue, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Translation<\/strong> of the Diploma\/Degree and Transcripts if required by the Italian school\/university or employer. The translation must be carried out by one of the certified translators included in the <strong>List of certified translators <\/strong>available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/gli-uffici\/modulistica\/\">forms page<\/a>. The Apostille does not require translation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pre-paid, self-addressed trackable mail envelope <\/strong>(Xpresspost or other courier) and form <strong>GEN02B<\/strong> (available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/gli-uffici\/modulistica\/\">forms page<\/a>) to authorize the Consulate to return the documents by mail.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>DV is free of charge if the applicant needs it to continue their studies<\/strong> (please specify, in the application form, which studies you intend to undertake and where). In all other cases, it is subject to the <strong>payment of consular fees<\/strong>: article <strong>66N, <\/strong>for the issuance of the DV, and art. <strong>69,<\/strong> to legalize the certified translator\u2019s signature (if a translation is included). The <strong>Table of Consular Fees<\/strong> is available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/consvancouver.esteri.it\/en\/chi-siamo\/gli-uffici\/modulistica\/\">forms page.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>B.
