Please note that beginning January 1st, 2023, in order to access the online services provided by the Public Administration (for instance, Fast It, the online portal for consular services), it will be necessary to have a SPID (Public Digital Identity System) number or an electronic identity card (CIE).
Users who already have the credentials to access online portals may continue to use them until March 31st, 2023.
A SPID number can be requested by Italian citizens over the age of 18 who possess a valid Italian identification document, an Italian social insurance number (codice fiscale), an email address, and a cellular phone number.
There is no charge to obtain a SPID number; however, some of the necessary documents require the payment of a fee (such as an Italian passport, for example).
Applicants may choose the identity provider that best suits their requirements: some providers use authentication via webcam or smartphone to read biometric passports or electronic identity cards.
